STEPS INVOLVED IN SILVER PLATING
I.NTRODUCTION Silver plating is done for many reasons. Primarily, it can increase the conductivity of a metal, along with its aesthetic appeal. 2.PREPARATION Take a moment to employ necessary safety measures like wearing goggles and thick plastic hand gloves for protection.
3.CHEMICAL REQUIREMENTS Mix two separate solutions of silver nitrate & potassium cyanide in two separate bowls with equal proportion. 4.CREATE A BATH Once completed, mix these two separate solutions In a single glass basin to create an electrolytic bath for silver plating.
5.PLANT A BATTERY In the basin next to the solution, place a battery for power supply. Either 9 or 12 volt is suitable for this process. 6.POSITIVE END Connect the positive terminal of a battery to a piece of silver using an alligator clip. This is known as the anode.
7.NEGATIVE END In the same procedure, connect a battery’s negative end to the metal to be silver plated. This is known as the cathode. 8.FINAL STEP The process can take anywhere between days to weeks depending on the item's size and a battery's strength.
