In July 2008, the CDC MMWR published a study related to the 2007 San Diego County, California Wildfires. www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/mm5727a2.htm
This well-done study contained the following figure showing asthma-related information:
During the time period of the Wildfires, FirstWatch was aggregating and monitoring live EMS and Fire dispatch data from three large communications centers covering the area. The chart below shows all EMS respiratory calls during the same time period shown on the MMWR figure for asthma. FirstWatch PSAN [CA San Diego County]: Respiratory Time SeriesGraphs represent in queue, active or completed calls between the hours of 9/24/2007 and 11/3/2007
To visualize the comparison more clearly, we’ll first view a version of the FirstWatch PSAN chart “stretched” so that the axes match EMS Dispatch Respiratory Calls Then we’ll overlay a version of the MMWR chart that has had the in-chart labels and arrows removed, as well as the top border.
