  2. Today’s Session Purpose:This learning lab is an instructor-led, hands on workshop that will guide participants through the set-up of basic and advanced segments for a variety of business needs. Objectives: At the end of this course participants will be able to: Create segments using the tools available within Analytics and Explore Understand the differences in the segmentation tools Access data in order to analyze segment behavior
  3. Lesson 1: Building Report Segments
  4. Lesson 1: Objectives At the end of this lesson participants will be able to: Build a Report Segment in Analytics Apply segments to top level reports
  5. Report Segmentation Use Case Goal: View and target last month’s new visitors. Getting Started: Click ‘Report Options’ from any main report, such as Top Line Metrics Select the ‘Segments’ Tab, then ‘Create a new segment’ Alternatively, you can navigate to the Manage Menu and Click ‘Report Segments’ Use Report Segmentation to: View marketing sources for new visitors to learn how they arrived at the site View top viewed pages, pages of entry, and pages of departure for new visitors to learn about their interests

Building Report Segments Step 1: Select Segment Type Name and categorize the segment Insert comment and/or email (optional) Choose a time span (persistent or one-time) Click ‘Next’ Step 2: Enter Criteria Select criteria and operators for your segment using text or values Click ‘Next’ Step 3: Select Reports Select up to 4 application reports Click the ‘Create Segment’ button

  9. Lesson 2: Objectives At the end of this lesson participants will be able to: Build Profile Segments in Analytics View results for Profile Segments
  10. Profile Segmentation Use Case Goal: Identify and convert frequent visitors. Getting Started: Navigate to Reports -> Demographics, then select ‘Profile Segments’ Use Report Segmentation to: View marketing sources for new registrants to learn how they arrived at the site View top viewed pages, pages of entry, and pages of departure for new registrants to learn about their interests

Building Profile Segments Step 1: Select Segment Type Name the segment and specify a date range Tick the ‘Match the segment criteria date range’ box, if desired Click ‘Next’ Step 2: Enter Criteria Select criteria and operators for your segment using text or values Click ‘Next’ Step 3: Select Reports Select reports of interest Click ‘Create Segment’ Tick the box to download emails and specify format, if desired

  15. Lesson 2: Objectives At the end of this lesson participants will be able to: Build and utilize custom segments in Explore Access pre-built reports in Explore
  16. Explore Segmentation Use Case Goal: Omit international visitors from reports to better understand and convert domestic visitors. Getting Started: Navigate to the ‘Build’ area of Explore Select any report type, add columns and metrics, then select the ‘Segments’ Tab Alternatively, pre-create segments from the ‘Manage’ area, for use in future reports Use Explore segmentation to: View top viewed pages of domestic visitors to learn more about their interests

Building Explore Segments Step 1: Segment Settings Name and categorize the segment Select Segment Type: Same Session or Cross Session If Cross Session is chosen, specify Same Period, Prior Period, or Custom Dates Step 2: Segment Criteria Select criteria and operators for your segment using text or values, optionally using existing segments Click the ‘Save Segment’ button Step 3: Segment Selection Include/analyze segments with any Flat List, Dynamic Group, or Segment Compare report
