Application Process • Attend mandatory orientation • Review/Select sites with advisor approval • Submit application & Statement of understanding • Additional Site Form • Employment waiver form (All above due to fieldwork coordinator by 04/04/14) 6. Approval letters should arrive no later than the early May 7. Liability /Site Confirmation Due 05/02/14 8. Interviews with sites may occur only after approval

Site Approval & Selection • Please review the approved site list • Discuss at least 3 prospective sites with advisor, who will approve sites if appropriate and eligibility is met • Obtain approval of sites not on list: • Complete and attach Additional Site Form to application and submit to fieldwork coordinator no later than 04/04/2014

Practicum/Internship RequirementsHighlights • Proof of Liability Insurance 05/02/2014http://www.hpso.comor http://www.counseling.org • Audio/video recording requirement (practicum only) • Client’s informed consent ( It is not permissible to use minors as mock clients) • 100 hr practicum (40 direct/ 60 indirect) • 600 hr internship (240 direct/360 indirect) • ONE hour of weekly supervision • Participate in and complete all course requirements

  6. Recording Requirements • Practicum students are responsible for submitting video recordings of “mock” sessions in DVD or electronic format. Client sessions at the site may be audio recorded. • Students may schedule recording sessions using the equipment in the Rehabilitation Counseling Program Office • If needed, WSSU’s Video & Classroom services offers assistance in transferring footage onto a DVD 601 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive  Anderson Center Room C114 Winston-Salem, NC 27110 Phone: 336-750-2680 Fax: 336-750-2686 Office Hours: 8:00 AM-5:00 PM

  7. Recording Requirements (continued) • Practicum students must submit recorded “client” sessions as follows: • Standard Audio cassette • DVD • Digital format (requires digital recorder) • Students should label each submission and include a corresponding case note • Recordings should occur with every client session (exceptions discussed in advance) • Recordings, notes, & consent forms should be stored in locked location.

Course Expectations & RequirementsHighlights • Assigned readings and lectures • mock & site counseling sessions • Case notes (practicum only) • Weekly journal submissions • Case Study • Log of Hours • Evaluations & related documentation • Contribution Project (internship only) • Site Visits (internship only)

  10. Satisfactory Knowledge & Skills • Deficiencies in counseling skills will be addressed by University supervisors. • Supervisors may contract with the student if there is no evidence of improvement.

  11. Satisfactory Knowledge & Skills (continued) • The advisor and fieldwork coordinator will develop a remedial plan with student if the terms of the contract are not fulfilled. • If the remedial plan is not successfully completed the student will receive a “U” or a failing grade.
