Previous Student: Writing Sample Does this fit our assignment? What changes need to be made? The epic poem “The Wanderings of Odysseus the Odyssey” by Homer and translated by Robert Fitzgerald. A hero ,in the Homeric period, was a warrior-chieftain of special strength, courage, or ability (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/hero). Odysseus is a great hero to many people because he is loyal, intelligent, and brave when he spreads from his armada, however Odysseus is also only human and has weaknesses one major weakness, his curiosity. Odysseus is loyal. “Eurylochus tells Odysseus what has happened and begs his captain to sail away from Circe’s island. Against Eurylochus’ advice, however, Odysseus rushes to save his men from the enchantress.” (920).

The epic poem The Wanderings of Odysseus from The Odyssey is by Homer, and translated by Robert Fitzgerald. According to McDougallLittell, “An epic hero is a larger-than-life figure, usually male, who embodies the ideals of a nation or race. Epic heroes take part in long, dangerous adventures and accomplish great deeds that require courage and superhuman strength” (890). Odysseus is a hero because he is brave, intelligent, and loyal, however Odysseus is also human and therefore, has one major weakness, arrogance.
