RR AIP IoanisKourbanis 12/19/12
Requirements • Provide proton beam with the proper time structure from the Recycler to the muon campus for the g-2/mu2e experiments.
Scope • New 2.5 MHz RF system in Recycler to provide the required beam structure. Will also provide 2 2.5 cavities for mu2e experiment. • New RR extraction Kickers to kick the proton beam out of the Recycler. • New beam-line to connect Recycler to the existing P1 line. • An extension to the MI-52 will be needed to accommodate the new kickers and the kicker cooling skid. (Not a part of this AIP).
2.5 MHz RF Cross sections of the 2.5 MHz coalescing cavity Coalescing cavity PA • We cannot use the existing MI coalescing cavities because they do not have active cooling. • New cavity design with cooling plates between ferrites (9 total cavities). • We will re-use the ferrites and PAs from existing coalescing cavities (additional ferrites and PAs will be needed) Coalescing cavities in MI (5 2.5 MHz +1 5.0 MHz)
RR To P1 Beam line RR • Simple beam line but located in a very busy area with a lot of interferences. Very challenging installation. • Have to shield both Recycler and the new beam line from MI fields. P1 Line MI MI-52 Extraction Region
RR Extraction Kickers ANU RKB Kicker Magnet • 2 new kicker magnets will be required. The magnets will be of the new RKB style designed for ANU. • We are going to re-use the beam tubes from the recently decommissioned Recycler kicker magnets. • We are going to re-use the PFLs from the Recycler kickers. • Two new 25 Ohm loads capable of up to 250 W average power will be built. • A flurinet cooling skid will be used to cool the loads.
Project Plan • We assume installation of the Extraction Kickers and the Beam line Stub in Summer 2014. • We assume the 2.5 RR RF in Summer 2015. • A 30% contingency has been assumed.
