  1. ECCMA Coding Concept Explanation & Value Proposition

  2. What is ECCMA Coding? A standardised, structured coding system that will uniquely identify items by their specific properties

  3. How Does it Work? • Current Catalogues consist of a list of numbers (stock code) and descriptions • ECCMA coding converts the existing catalogue into a database • Converting the existing catalogue into such a format involves 4 Steps: • Classification • Identification Guide Selection and Commercialization • Value Extraction • Content Enrichment

  4. Step 1 - Classification What is the item in question? ECCMA identifies items based on the principle of a noun and a qualifier (to more accurately describe the noun). In this case: Bearing: Ball; Annular ECCMA Concept Identifier: 0161-1-01-006687

  5. Step 2 – Identification Guide Commercialization What do I need to know about this bearing in order to buy it? • Bearing: Ball; Annular • Inner Diameter • Outer Diameter • Width • # Rows • Sealing Type • Load Rating • Speed Rating Commercialized Template

  6. External Diameter Brand & Part # Internal Diameter Width # of Rows Sealed/Non Sealed Step 3 – Value Extraction What do I already know about this item from my current catalogue/code? Current Description BEARING SKF 6317 85MM BORE 180MM O/D 41MM W.REF.SKF 6317 BALL BEARINGS RADIAL RIGID TO BS 292 PART 1 1982 SINGLE ROW OPEN TYPE MEDIUM SERIES WITH

  7. Step 3 – Value Extraction What do I already know about this item from my current catalogue/code? Missing Properties Partially Populated Commercialized Template

  8. Step 4 – Content Enrichment Populating the missing properties to complete the coding process. www.skf.com
