Why a survey on city times? Time factor in city contest is influenced by fast social changes and by labor market that contribute in making it a very precious resourse. Times policy
So time becomes a very significant shot that can influence city life quality There is the need of gentling life and working times with local opening-time services : opening time of Public Offices; shops, family, health and cultural services; public transport and so on. Times policy
Urban times policy adopt this challenge: Contributing to improve each one’s and city’s quality life Thought coordination between common times and services Times policy
The two application areas of time policies are: 1. Coordination between services opening time 2. Urban time management in order to manage mobility flow of people; informations and goods Time policy

Times policy • Kick off in Monza • ON 9/12/05 Lombardy Region funded "Tempo al Tempo" Project belonging to Monza municipality. It is the kick off of the reflection about time politicises in our city • The project goals are • - making aware citizens and local administration on time question • - realizing a pilote on school transport • - the writing of timetable local plan (PTO), a document for the leading of a time policy
Times policy • Survey • Time policy must considers wishes and need of citizens • The first step is a cognitive survey on Monza’s time dimensions with the aim of: • 1. identify strategies of time changing in order to incerasing quality life • 2. making aware on this topic and to promote a new culture of a people friendly city

Times policy • Module 1 : qualitative step • goal: • Preparatory function to the quantitative one through questions definition • Way of working • focus group of about 7/10 persons selected on age, gender, marital status, • GOPPs composed by 7/10 persons. • realization of two focus groups : one composed by young students and workers the other one of adults and old people
Surwey SWG • Module 2 : quantitative step • Way of working • Telephone survey on representative sample of 1014 of age people living in Monza. The questionnaire has been built thank to the results of qualitative survey • Topics • urban quality of life, satisfaction about life conditions in Monza; changes concetto vivibilità urbana, soddisfazione per condizioni di vita a Monza, times analysis from the point of wiew of different target (women, ancient people, young people, workers): needs, problems, wishes, priorities
Survey SWG • Quantitative survey summary • …..who lives in Monza needs more time • They are satisfy about quality life (54% of interviewed grade between 6 and 7 ; the 34% between 8 and 10) scale from 1 to 10 • daily life is too frenetic ( 63% think he’s life is quite/very frantic) • traffic in a stress element • Who lives in Monza spend at least 27 working days a year in their car!!

Survey SWG • Workers, young students and families with small children fell a lack of time in: areas • One self car use, low use of public transport, few parking in town centre • Narrow public and private services • Traffic and Tansferts • Public Office open time • Bank open time • ASL (social and health local public trust) and doctor’s office open time due to more flexibility in work times Increasing of public transport resctricted use of one self car open time of bank, public and health service, that allow workers to use them solutions
