Some may come up with a great hook but it doesn’t match the tone of their paper. 6
1. Begin with a simile or a metaphor • Example: My life has been a carnival. 8
2. Begin with a quotation • Tip: Make sure it’s relevant to your topic! 9
3. Begin with definition • Example: School-An institute for educating students 10
4. Begin with a scene • Example: The day of my birth began with Hurricane Charlie pounding at our door in Charleston, South Carolina. 11
