Graduation Requirements. Semestered Courses. High school students take 4 courses starting in September, write exams in January, then begin 4 new courses in February which finish in June. SAERC students take 8 courses each year, for a potential total of 24 credits in 3 years.

Semestered Courses • High school students take 4 courses starting in September, write exams in January, then begin 4 new courses in February which finish in June. • SAERC students take 8 courses each year, for a potential total of 24 credits in 3 years. • Some grade 10 courses run full year and are counted as two credits.
Students require a total of 18 credits to graduate. • They must include 14 compulsory credits. • No more than 7 grade 10 credits can count toward this 18. • At least 5 credits must be at the grade 12 level.
Compulsory Credits(as of March 26/19) • 1 Physical Education Credit • 1 Fine Arts 10 (Music, Art or Drama) • 3 English (Eng. 10, Eng. 11, Eng. 12) • 3 Math (1 at each grade level) • 2 Science (Science 10 and another) • 2 Other Math, Science or Technology • 1 Global Studies • 1 Canadian Studies
Physical Education • Physical Education 11 • Physical Education 12 • Yoga 11 • Students must participate!
Fine Arts • Music 10 • Art 10 • Drama 10 • Music 12 • Drama 11 • Art 12 • Arts Visuels 10
English • No alternative to English 10 • Two levels at grade 11: Academic or Communications • Two levels at grade 12 : Academic or Communications
Math • 3 levels of math at grade 10 level • Math 10 is full year….students get 2 credits; one math and one elective. • Math At Work 10 and Math 10 Essentials are semestered.
Science • 2 sciences required for graduation • All grade 10 students take Science 10. • Science courses include Biology 11 and 12, Chemistry 11 and 12, Physics 11 and 12, Oceans 11.
2 Others • Students require 2 other credits from math, science or technology • Technologies are Construction Technology 10, Communications Technology 11 and 12, Production Technology 11 and 12, Film and Video 12, Multimedia 12, Design 11
Global Studies • Global History 12 • Global Geography 12 • GeographiePlanataire 12
Canadian Studies • Canadian History 11 • Histoire du Canada 11 • Mi’kmaq Studies 11
Transcripts • All courses taken from grade 10 on appear on transcripts. • All grades appear on transcripts. (including failing grades)
French Immersion • Students must have 9 courses in French throughout grades 10, 11 & 12 • Grade 10 – Francais 10, Arts Visuels 10, Mode de Vie Actif 11, Sciences 10 • Grade 11 – Francais 11, Histoire 11, Chemie 11/Oceans 11 Immersion • Grade 12 – Francais 12, GeoPlan 12
