The History of Beaudesert Lower School. The school was founded in 1813. It was built on the corner of East Street and Beaudesert. It was open to children and adults for both day and evening classes, as well as Sundays for Bible reading sessions. Large classes.

The school was founded in 1813. It was built on the corner of East Street and Beaudesert. It was open to children and adults for both day and evening classes, as well as Sundays for Bible reading sessions.
Large classes The children were taught in classes of over 100. There was one teacher, who was assisted by the older children, who helped the younger ones.
Boys’ School In 1839 the school became a boys’ only school, as another school was built for the girls.
Beaudesert Boys’ School In 1895 the school was first called Beaudesert. Another building was built next door for younger boys and girls .
School Magazine In 1905 the school magazine was started. It contained stories, Bible teaching, puzzles, school information and achievements. It also had advertisements.
Centenary In 1913 the school celebrated its centenary. (Above are the staff at that time.) The day was made a general holiday in Leighton Buzzard, and streets and houses were decorated!
World War 2 During World War 2 the schools was closed for a few days as they prepared the building for air raids. The school grew vegetables to help the war effort. Classes continued through the summer holidays!
Beaudesert Infant School In 1958 the school became an Infant school with the older boys going to the newly built Brooklands school.
Demolition In 1981 the school had to be demolished because it had become so old and damp.
New School, New Place The new school was built in 1981 on Appenine Way.
200 Years Old! In 2013 we are now celebrating the school’s bicentenary!
