Lower School With the aid of wonderful children’s books, Denis captivates K-4th graders during story telling sessions that weave together Marco Polo’s legendary travels along with his own. The children then sample a mix of aromatic spices as they learn of their countries of origin, handle artifacts collected on the Silk Road including lapis lazuli stones and silk cocoons and get their own ‘passports’ stamped from the various regions they have just explored. Geo-cashing, artifact show and tell and simple Islamic patterns, among others, also offer opportunities to engage younger students.
5-8th Grade On the day of the visit we recommend starting off with the Q+A assembly followed by some workshops from our Explorer-In-Residence (EIR) program. Our Islamic geometric patterns, Chinese blue & white porcelain plates and Marco’s golden tablets projects have been very successful in many schools across the country.
