APPROACH: 1. ESTABLISHMENT NETWORK OF HIGH LEVEL OFFICIAL FOR SECTOR DEVELOPMENT AND ENVIRONMENTAL 2. ORGANIZATION MEETING TO HELP IMPLEMENTATION OF SUSTAINABLE MANAGEMENT STRATEGIES SUSTAINABLE MANAGEMENT PEATLAND IN BORNEO 3. METHODOLOGY AND ITS SUPPORTING TOOL USED NATURAL RESOURCES ACCOUNTING MODEL FOR TROPICAL PEAT 4. MANAGEMENT BY ESTABLISHMENT AN APPROPRIATE GIS/DATABASE AND STATE OF THE ART SET MODELING TOOLS TO SUPPORT DECISION MAKING • KETAPANG AND PONTIANAK • WEST KALIMANTAN
ACHIEVEMENTS Forum for Sustainable Development of Peatland In Central Kalimantan Held in British Ambassador To Indonesia, 26th September 2002 - Indonesian National Stakeholder - Kalteng Provincial Stakeholder - International : - Governments - Funders - Universities 1. ACHIEVEMENTS C O N S E N S U S 1.THERE IS A NEED FOR NEW REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT PLAN OF TROPICAL PEATLAND 2.RESTORATION OF HYDROLOGICAL FUNCTIONING IS ESSENTIAL TO SUPPORT 3. COORDINATING BODY TO PROMOTE WISE USE APPROACH 4. THE NEED OF LOCAL PEOPLE IN DECISION MAKING 5. FUTURE ACTION MUST BE BASED UPON THE BEST SCIENTIFIC INFORMATION VAILABLE 6. INTRODUCTION OF BIO RIGHT, CARBON CREDITS, GREEN ENERGY MICRO FINANCE INITIATIVE MUST BE CONSIDERED 7. SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT OF FORMER MEGA RICE PROJECT AREA WILL INVOLVE THE LARGEST PEATLAND RESTORATION PROGRAM
ACHIEVEMENTS Meeting for Grand Strategy of Master Plan Ex Mega Rice Project (MRP) Held in Bappenas, March 25, 2003 Dep.Forestry, Public Work, Transmigration, Agriculture, BPPT, Bappenas, Environment, KTI, Kalteng Province, Local Province of Forestry Department, Bappeda-Barito, Bappeda Palangkaraya, Bappeda Pulang Pisau 2. ORGANIZATION MEETING TO HELP IMPLEMENTATION OF SUSTAINABLE MANAGEMENT CONCLUSION : Appointed DR.BAMBANG SETIADI to Lead the Team of Integrated Plan Scenario for Ex Mega Rice Project In the year 2003-2004
ACHIEVEMENTS 3. SUPPORTING TOOL BY USING NATURAL RESOURCES ACCOUNTING MODEL FOR TROPICAL PEAT CONCEPT : gNPP = NNP + RD - DEP - ED Net National Product Resources Discovery Environmental Damage Depletion Resources REDUCTION IN THE VALUE OF DEPOSIT OF THE TROPICAL PEAT AS A RESULT OF THE PHYSICAL USE AND USING THE ASSET, DEPLETION OF WATER RESOURCES AND THE DEPLETION OF NATURAL TROPICAL PEAT FOREST IN THE TROPICAL PEAT AREA AND OTHER NON CULTIVATED BIOLOGICAL AS A RESULT OF ILLEGAL LOGING, FOREST CLEARANCE, FOREST FIRE OR OTHER USE
MAIN REFERENCE : “AJUSTING THE NATIONAL INCOME ACCOUNTS FOR THE DEPLETION OF NATURAL RESOURCES” (Luicy Ryan et al, 2001) A paper presented on 30th Annual Conference of Economists, 23-27 September 2001, Perth, Australia 1. THE CONCEPT a. Depletion b. Value economic c. Addition d. Resources Rent 2. SIMULATION a. Net Present Value (NPV) b. Resources Rent (RR)
ACHIEVEMENTS NATURAL RESOURCES ACCOUNTING MODEL FOR TROPICAL PEAT
SIMULATION – NPV Method • GRAPH : Menampilkan Graph • TABULAR : Menampilkan Nilai Deplesi Secara Numerik. • SETUP PRINTER : Melakukan Setup Printer • PRINT : Mencetak Grafik • SAVE : Menyimpan Grafik • COPY:Menyalin Data Grafik ke Clipboard • CLOSE : Meninggalkan Grafik
ACHIEVEMENTS 3. GIS FOR MANAGEMENT OF TROPICAL PEATLAND KETAPANG
P R O B L E M S • NETWORK AND FORUM • - To define the Forum strategy • - Good mission but limited funding • - Bank of “idea” or Group of “Pressure” 2. REMOTE SENSING AND GIS - Stakeholder involvement 3. NRA FOR TROPICAL PEAT - First Experience on NRA Model Application - Lack of parameter and data
FUTURE PLANS 1. NETWORK and FORUM - Continue organize activities 2. REMOTE SENSING AND GIS - Complete field research on : a. peat fire area b. biodiversity of peat area - Participation of stakeholder for data gathering 3. NATURAL RESOURCES ACCOUNTING (NRA) - Continue field research and develop model - Linking NRA with decision making
