  6. What do umpires Need from the UM at a tournament? • They want to be part of a team. • The UM should also be part of the same team. • The UM should build the team and keep it together. • A good, happy team will show on the pitch. UM Presentation – Doing it well

  7. What do umpires Need from the UM at a tournament? • The umpire needs the UM to be on his/her side after the game. They do not need to be told what they did wrong when they are walking off the pitch. • They do not want you to be talking about them to any other umpire. • You should not be talking about forthcoming appointments in the tournament. What do umpires Need from the UM at a tournament? • They need to be de-briefed. • They need to be given positive feedback. • They need to be given objective guidance on areas they need to work on. • Your job as an UM is not just for this tournament. The umpire has a lot to offer hockey. If they aren’t doing too well at this tournament, it doesn’t mean they can’t or won’t at another. UM Presentation – Doing it well
