What are the programs that we don’t want to lose and why? Our focus is Kindergarten through Fifth grade primarily, but the preschool and after school programs are an integral part of our students’ success. “We would like to keep every program we have now because they all expose kids to so manygood things”
Programs that impact facilities: • Music has moved into a room at the BGC. She sees every student in the school. A cart is not an option as the playground is not covered and her equipment is too cumbersome. • In M3, we house Special Ed, Newcomer, Title I, the Math Coach, and if restored, out Literacy Coach • M6 is our staff work room. It houses the laminator, copy machines, science materials, art docent portfolios, second step program and serves as a place for 59 employees to meet throughout the day • Room 11 hosts an all day preschool and M11 2 half day preschools. After school they serve the Kinderclub Program for the BGC. Space is not available in the community in which to move these programs.
Achievement Data • Safe Harbor: We met our Adequate Yearly Progress and our Academic Performance Index for 2006-2007 • All sub groups made their AYP and API • Not in PI for Math

Parents: What are we doing to increase involvement? • Weekly news bulletins via email • Translated weekly bulletins on hallway board • PTO bulletin board and flyers home • Parents networking with other parents • Students inviting parents to events • Mandatory attendance at meetings to qualify for other programs
School Climate How many of your students opt out of NTMS? • 2006: Ten students went elsewhere. All of them lived in another attendance area, either in Truckee or Nevada. In addition, one also wanted a more flexible schedule, and one wanted small group instruction. • 2007: Three students moved to Reno or Carson • 2008: Three students will attend Sage Ridge
Referrals to SARB We did not need to make any SARB referrals over the last 3 years. None were needed. Attendance letters were sent, conferences were held, absences stopped.

Suggestions from Staff • Make KBE an immersion magnet school to meet the demand • Create a different type of magnet school at Tahoe Lake such as Science or Performing Arts • Balance programs with a mixture of EL’s and EO’s

With TWI-two groups of students become fluent in each language. For example, EO’s and EL’s emerge fluent in English and Spanish With DI-one group of students is taught 2 new languages. For example, EO’s would learn Spanish and Chinese.
