Zoning Goals • Open Pioneer Elementary with approximately 575 students in September 2014 • Include the Southwestern student population of 490 students and expand the current Southwestern attendance zone to include approximately 85 additional students • Maintain a contiguous attendance zone using established roadways, geographical features, and neighborhood boundaries to the greatest extent possible • Respect established neighborhood boundaries where possible • Reduce mobile unit usage at schools affected by rezoning

  5. Proposed Pioneer Elementary Boundary Description • Beginning at a point where the NS/CSX railway crosses into Isle of Wight County and heading northeast along the railway at Kenyon Rd. The Pioneer Elementary boundary continues south near Kenyon Rd following all parcel boundaries on Kenyon Rd including Hamer Rd and Smalleys Dam Circle. Then turning southwest along parcel boundaries back to intersection of Kenyon Rd, Holland Rd / RT-58, and Forest Glen Dr..

Boundary Description cont. • The boundary continues down Forest Glen Dr including all parcels on Forest Glen Dr to the intersection with the western outfall of Speights Run Reservoir continuing southwest along Speights Run Reservoir. Continue south to the intersection of Manning Bridge Road and Manning Road. All parcels on Manning Bridge Rd. attend Pioneer Elementary.

  7. Boundary Description cont. • Continue to follow an imaginary line bordering the parcels just south of Manning Road and north of Jackson Road (all parcels on Jackson Road attend Pioneer Elementary). Continue northeast to the intersection of Jackson Road and Turlington Road. At Turlington Road turn east (all parcels on this section of Turlington Road attend Pioneer Elementary including parcels on Lawson Circle, Bentley Drive, Charlotte Drive, and Art Ray Drive).

  8. Boundary Description cont. • Turn south/southwest following an imaginary line bordering parcels south of Turlington Road and west of Old Somerton Road and continuing south to the intersection of Whaleyville Blvd. and Old Somerton Road. Turn south down Whaleyville Blvd. to Carolina Road.

  9. Boundary Description cont. • Follow Carolina Road south to Copeland Road (all parcels on this section of Carolina Road attend Pioneer Elementary). Follow Copeland Road northwest to Whaleville Blvd (all parcels on this section of Copeland Rd. attend BTWES). Turn south/southwest along Whaleyville Blvd. to Greenway Road (all parcels on Whaleyville Blvd. attend Pioneer Elementary).

  10. Boundary Description cont. • Turn east/southeast on Greenway Road to the intersection of  Adams Swamp Road (all parcels on Greenway Road including Clover Rd will attend Pioneer Elementary). Turn south on Adams Swamp Road (all parcels on Adams Swamp Road south of Greenway Road will attend Pioneer Elementary Turn east on Gates Run Drive.

  11. Boundary Description cont. • Follow Gates Run Drive to the North Carolina border (all parcels on Gates Run Drive will attend Pioneer Elementary). Follow the NC / VA line west to the Blackwater River and follow the Suffolk boundary north to the NS/CSX railway
