Cardiff Waste Water Treatment Plant • Biggest Plant in Wales for WWTW • SBR plant Designed for 880 000 people • Fully Operational over 10 years • Advanced Anaerobic Digestion (THP) • Cambi two stream process • 4.5MW plant came online Nov 2010
Business Needs – Project Benefits • Below are some business drivers for Innovation which supports our Business Plan, and which this A4B project will aid in achieving: • Improve our compliance performance through optimization of treatment processes and waste management • Increase our level of reuse and recovery of resources in our business • Reduce our waste in all areas of the business • Adapt and react to climate change by developing appropriate innovative low carbon solutions for the business infrastructure
Business Needs- Project benefits • Nutrient Separation/recovery from Digestates: This project will be entering our stages of Innovation at level 1 & 2 for proof of concept at laboratory level and technology evaluation on an operational site to determine potential benefit of nutrient recovery of our VFA but also investigate the production of PHA’s (high value product) using existing assets. • SBR’s and relationship with polymer production & process monitoring This project will also be using the Aber Instruments at Cardiff WWTW to see the ability and benefit of measuring our SBR activated sludge biomass and also for our AAD plant biomass, which if successful will be a valuable tool for optimisation and performance monitoring, as well as a potential high value product. • ·
