  2. Contents Roadmap • Overview of SDA • Features • Online Tools: Using the ICPSR Data Analysis System (DAS) • SAMHDA’s TEDS QuickTables • SDA: Mucking about with Data Accoleds/DLI Training 2003 University of Calgary

  3. Overview of SDA • SDA (Survey Documentation & Analysis) • Developed at UC, Berkeley • Web software to perform simple data analysis • Tool for Teaching & Classroom use • No need for stats packages on local computers • Browse codebooks • No need to download data & docs • Create summary statistics for reports Accoleds/DLI Training 2003 University of Calgary

  4. SDA Features • browse codebooks, questionnaires, documentation • statistical procedures: eg. list values, frequencies, crosstabs, … • manipulate variables eg. Recode, compute new variables, … • custom subsets of selected variables and cases • codebook open in a separate window • download all : data, SPSS/SAS def, docs Accoleds/DLI Training 2003 University of Calgary

  5. Online Analysis Using the Data Analysis System (DAS) • 150 studies available in SDA format • DAS studies related to: • Aging • Criminal Justice • Education • Substance Abuse & Mental Health Accoleds/DLI Training 2003 University of Calgary

  6. Online Analysis Using the Data Analysis System (DAS) • Special Topic Archives With their Web Sites: • Census 2000 at ICPSR • Election 2000 at ICPSR • General Social Survey (GSSDIRS) • Health and Medical Care Archive (HMCA) • Homicide Research Working Group (HRWG) • International Archive of Education Data (IAED) • National Archive of Computerized Data on Aging (NACDA) • National Archive of Criminal Justice Data (NACJD) • Site for Instructional Materials and Information (SIMI) • Substance Abuse & Mental Health Data Archive (SAMHDA) Accoleds/DLI Training 2003 University of Calgary
