  1. Junior Microbiologists of Class 9 Marching Forward To achieve our Mission

  2. What we did…………. • As junior Microbiologist, we studied microbial diseases in 2 villages near our school.

  3. Steps we took……… • We understood different kinds of disease common in villages and how microbial disease can spread and become a epidemic threat - what are the cause and effect • We analysed which microbes cause the diseases, frequency of disease occurrence, susceptibility and spread • We studied the symptoms, medications and preventive care • We formulated steps to be taken to control epidemic break out in the villages

  4. Our Area of Study…….. • Ramanagar- Village in Bangalore rural district, falls under the industrial area, tremendous growth and development results in • Increase in Population • Development of slums • Water and Air population • Anekal- A small village in south Bangalore district • Irrigated lands • Fresh air and clean water • Self sufficient full time farmers

  5. Our Method of Study………… Field study Research & Analysis for the project • Visit villages along with teacher/school leader • Study locality • Interview local health center doctor • Interact with patients • Interact with village sarpanch’s (village leaders) • Data Collection • Data Compilation • Data analysis • Checking internet and other resources on Microbes • Documentation of the study

  6. Key Observations –Study of Locality Anekal • Kind of Village: Small • Source of water : Lake • Major Occupations: Mostly Agriculture • Health Center: Yes • Is water contaminated : No • Total Population : 125 000 • School: Primary & Middle • General cleanliness: Clean Ramnagram • Kind of Village: Small • Source of water : Lake • Major Occupations: Mostly daily wage labors • Health Center: Yes • Is water contaminated : Yes • Total Population : 200 000 • School: Middle & High School • General cleanliness: Not clean

  7. Key Observations: number of Patients/month

  8. Common Microbial Diseases-Frequency of Occurrence

  9. Mode of transmission • Mosquitoes are the major agents to transmit the bacteria which causes Malaria & chicken gunya • The virus which causes Typhoid, Flu & TB are spread through air particles

  10. Medication • Early diagnosis of urine, blood to identify the pathogens • X-ray and scanning of chest and respiratory tracts • Specific diagnosis by microbial culture examination • Second & third generation antibiotics • Appropriate use of pain killers

  11. Disease outbreak leading to an Epidemic

  12. Digging Deeper • We are responsible in turning our friends into foes • Ponder on the following causes leading to epidemics: • Lack of timely medication • Unhygienic Conditions • Lack of precautions / vaccinations • Discontinuing prescribed course of medication • Not following doctor's advice and instructions

  13. The Doctor’s Suggestions…… • Vaccination is mandatory for kids • Live in clean, safe & pollution free environment • Use enough fruits & vegetables in daily food • Consult your physician immediately • Follow doctor’s suggestions & complete the suggested doses • Drink boiled water

  14. The Village Leader’s Suggestions….. • Keep your living surroundings clean • Visit community hospital regularly • Bring to our notice if any community health problems arises

  15. Lets Join Hands… Do attend.. • Health camp - 25th August • Awareness session in the evening schools - 26th August • Community cleaning drives – 27th August

  16. Let Microbes be our Friends Forever!
