Introduction The Bladder is the organ that collects urine produced by the kidneys. In males, the base of the bladder sits between the Rectum and the Pubic. In females, the bladder belongs near the Uterus and the Vagina.

Facts, facts, facts • The detrusor muscle is a layer on the bladder • The bladder in children can hold 300-350 ml of urine and an adults holds 500 ml • The desire to urinate usually starts when the bladder reaches around 25% • Some say a urinary bladder can hold 1000 ml • Eventually, the bladder will fill to the point where the urge to urinate becomes overwhelming, and the subject will no longer be able to ignore • Since the urinary bladder has a transitional epithelium, it does not produce mucus
