What? Who? When? Where? Why?
What? • The unique student identifier – Moves with the student throughout his/her career Guarantees the ability to connect student records across all areas, such as attendance, discipline, assessment Facilitates transfers between schools and districts Eliminates duplication of student records
What? • Does the unique student identifier look like – It is a 12 Digit Random Number Generated by the State: Unique Student ID 132435765892 Other Current IDs will be maintained: Social Security Number 419562345 Local 100000456
When? • During this past weekend – STI information pulled from each district into the State level database Each student currently enrolled was assigned a unique identifier Automated process will send this information back to schools and districts when sign-on occurs today
How? • Does this affect STI operation at school or district – Whenever student enrolls, the District and State-level database is queried to determine if student already exists If the student exists, the school will be presented information to confirm that the student is, indeed, the same person If the student does not exist at the District or State level, the student will be added and a unique identifier assigned Temporary enrollment at new school prior to withdrawal at previous school is handled
How? • Does this interact with other identifiers – Local identifier is not affected and, along with Social Security Number, will continue to be maintained Local identifier continues to be used for scheduling and tracking at the local school level
How? Does a new student get a unique identifier - When a new student registers at a school, the enrollment process will automatically search the district and state system for the student. If the student is not found, a unique student ID will be generated.
How? Student Enrollment and the Unique Student ID – How does it work? • Does this process work – Staff enters basic student information Student Found ?
