  1. Ceiling Design Project Team Briggs Mike Taptich Dan Uniatowski Dana Kubinak Ryan Peel Drew Skupien

  2. Mission Statement • Natural sunlight will be an important factor in daytime illumination in order to conserve energy. • Our goal is to create a ceiling design that will be safe, functional, innovative, use natural sunlight, and will provide sound dampening qualities.

  3. Target Audience • Warmer Climates • High Ceilings • Libraries • Malls • Art galleries / museums • Banks • Entrance halls

  4. Customer Needs • Safety • Complies with existing building codes which address fire and seismic performance • Sound Dampening • Low Cost Installation • Energy Efficient • Futuristic, i.e. Innovative

  5. Design Concept 1 Stainless steel frame • Small panels • Optimal for glass blocks • Stainless steel frame with recessed panels • Natural lighting • Honeycomb sound dampening quality in frame Small glass panels

  6. Design Concept 2 Aluminum Frame • Large panels • Optimal for glass sheets • Aluminum frame • Cost efficient • Simple • Natural lighting Larger glass panels

  7. Design Concept 3 LEDs in cross section of frame • Innovative, LED lighting • Seldom replacement • Energy saving • Not for whole room illumination • Steel frame • Recesses allowing LED placement • Strong and sturdy • Large panels • Optimal for glass sheets • Cost efficient Steel frame

  8. Design Concept 4 Track lighting on frame • Track lighting • Brushed Aluminum frame • Holds track lights • Large panels • Optimal for glass sheets • Cost efficient Large glass panels Brushed Aluminum Frame

  9. Panel Design Concept

  10. Final Panel Design Mates to fit frame together Steel beams in framing LED lighting length of beam Glass fits in

  11. Glass Concepts • Glass Block • Clear Panel • Frosted Panel • Clear Concave Panel • Laminated Glass

  12. Glass Concept

  13. DuPont™ SentryGlas® Plus • Safety • Sound dampening • Energy efficient • Allows new age design • Easy to install

  14. Safety • Laminated glass absorbs energy of the impact • Ordinary window glass is brittle and breaks into long sharp pieces • Will not shatter • Holds up against • hurricanes • cyclones • earthquakes

  15. Sound Dampening • Reduces the transmission of noises through the glass • Interlayer focuses on sound dampening • 1,000 to 3,000 Hz. (range of humans) • Dampens sound at an average of 7.2dB • changes the noise a thunderstorm to a moderate rain

  16. Energy Efficient • Too much sunlight can also mean too much heat • Tinted laminated glass reflects light to reduce heat gain • SentryGlas® can absorb up to 89.9% UV Rays • Lower air conditioning and energy costs

  17. Final Glass Design Layers of Glass Laminated layer

  18. Final Design Steel Frame LED lighting inside frame DuPont Glass

  19. Final Design

  20. Installation Cost • $52 / hour per worker • 3 workers • 2 days / 16 hours • 192 square foot (12x16) Total = $13 / sq. ft.
