  2. Why have a meeting? • Have limited discussion on an issue • Decide a formal position on an issue • Take a formal vote • Communicate with the group

  3. Parli. Pro. – What is it? • Effective for meetings with large groups • Organized meetings • Controlled discussions • Majority rules • Minority is heard

  4. Why use Parli. Pro.? • It sets the rules for how the meeting is to be run!

  5. Parli. Pro. Vocab • Adjourn- to close the meeting • Agenda- list of items to cover during a meeting • Amend- to change a motion • Carry- to pass a motion

  6. Parli. Pro. Vocab • Chair- the person in charge (ex: President) • Majority- more than half • Minutes- records of meeting (notes)

  7. Parli. Pro. Vocab • Motion- proposal for action • Quorum- minimum number of people required to be at meeting • Recognize- allow someone to speak

  8. Order of Business: • Call to order • Roll call • Officer reports • Old business • New business • Adjourn

  9. How to Make a Motion • Person 1: “I move that we…” • Person 2: “I second the motion” • President: repeat motion and ask for discussion
