Plans for the SUSY MET PAS and Current MET Status Kenichi Hatakeyama(Baylor) Henning Flaecher (Rochester) MET-SUSY PAS Kick-offMeeting April 28, 2010
MET-SUSY PAS The focus of the MET-SUSY PAS is “MET performance” in inclusive and jet events. Studies of MET in events with leptons/photons will go to MET-EWK PAS, and MET modeling for SUSY analyses will go to SUSY PAS.
Timeline https://twiki.cern.ch/twiki/pub/CMS/JetMET/JetMETtimelineForICHEP.pdf Schedule: • Draft 0 with abstract, introduction, list of sections and figures: 30-April • Summary during Physics Week: 17-May • Plans for PAS in JetMET: 31-May • Dataset frozen on 31-May, analysis notes and PAS released by: 7-June • Pre-approval in JetMETmeeting: 15-June • MET ARC green light: 23-June • MET approvals: 30-June Still subject to change. We have to define the study which is achievable in this time frame.
A Few Notes • Sharing wisdom • cms-met-commissioning@cern.ch • Sharing Results • http://indico.cern.ch/conferenceDisplay.py?confId=88964 • Collect information • https://twiki.cern.ch/twiki/bin/viewauth/CMS/METichepPAS2
MET-SUSY PAS Contents https://twiki.cern.ch/twiki/bin/viewauth/CMS/METichepPAS2 Developments w.r.t. the previous MET PAS • 7 TeV data! (1-10 pb-1) • Repeat many of December data MET studies with 7 TeV data • Study MET in various dijet event topology, higher jet energies (or HT), higher multiplicities (=2, =3, >=2, >=3, etc). • Need to define studies so that we are studying MET performance but not QCD • Type I & II corrections for CaloMET • Plan to have (1) CaloMET, (2) TypeI+II MET, (3) TcMET, (4) PfMET, and (5) MHT in various event topologies • MET significance • Updates on noise cleaning • Cleaning tools beyond the simplistic topological cuts (e.g. using timing information) are under development and to be documented
MET-SUSY PAS Outline • Introduction • Data sample definition • Updated description of noise cleanings and beam-induced background: tcmetpeople (mainly ecal cleaning), HCAL DPG (HF and HBHD cleaning), Ronny R (beam halo) • brief description of MET algorithms • Description of type-I and type-II MET Ulla G., Dayong W. • Description of MET singificance Freya B • MET performance in inclusive sample • Basic MET distributions • MET resolution versus sumet Artur A, tcmet people (TBC), Finn R • MET/MHT performance in jet studies • Basic MET/MHT distributions • MET and MHT resolution Artur A, tcmet people (TBC) Henning F., Burt B, Rob B, Bryn M, Markus S, Niki S Robert S • MET decomposition studies using thrust axis Chris R, Artur A, Maria S • MET decomposition studies using dijet bisector axis Jared S, Bill G, Harold N • MET performance in heavy-flavor events: Robert S • MET significance: Freya B • MET Study in pileup events • (Robert S) • Study of MET source (Finn R) • are alsosuggested.
What Do We Want to Achieve Today? • Get to know each other! • Review the status and plan of each contribution • Check the scope of each analysis and feasibility • Make sure all important items are well covered • Any new idea? • After the meeting, make the PAS draft 0 with abstract, introduction, list of sections and figures
