Mandated Training • Not a new topic. • It is “training that employers are require by law to provide.” • Topics include, but are not limited to, OSHA requirements, ethics, diversity and sexual harassment. ---Gillian Flynn--Editor-at-large, http://www.workforce.com • Required by organizational policy • ALCOAST 161/04, Admiral T.H.Collins, Commandant, U.S. Coast Guard---02April2004, mandates annual Sexual Harassment Training for all CG members. EdTec 685: Team 5-B (MT/SH)
Our approach • Broad MT overview • Narrow the focus when appropriate • Sexual Harassment Training • Talk to people in the field • How to get learners to “uncross their arms.” • Other than force, how do we engage learners in this topic? http://www.uscg.mil/hq/capemay/instructional.htm EdTec 685: Team 5-B (MT/SH)
Expert advice • Roger Rudy, Director of Staff Development, Alexandria (Va.) City Public Schools • “…training participants must participate actively in the learning.” • CDR Jeff Lee, School Chief, Command and Operations School • “…training must ‘hit home’ with the students…” EdTec 685: Team 5-B (MT/SH)
Expert advice • Patricia Graham, Campus Director, Chapman University • “…real world significance…learners must be able to recognize the significance….” • Ron McErny, Training Officer, Tulsa University. • “…use role-play to add value…” EdTec 685: Team 5-B (MT/SH)
