Law and e-learningThe experiencie of University of La Laguna Luis Javier Capote Pérez Profesor Contratado Doctor de Derecho Civil Universidad de La Laguna
1999. HTML webpages • First we used static webpages, using some space for e-mail service (50 m.) • There was not a department at University for designing or creating webpages. Every professor had to design his own page. • M. Publisher, Dreamweaver, Front Page…
1999. HTML webpages www.derecho-civil.net
2004. Mail lists • Trying to find another and more dynamic system, we used a mailing list service. • Again, this was not a service of our University. We used free services (eListas) • As every Internet free system, it has its own problems about function.

2005. Reasons for a change (I) • In La Laguna we still teach Law under a Plan that was enacted in 1953 (it also happens in the Complutense University in Madrid, with over 20.000 Law students). • In 2004 we were evaluated by an external committee. The Study Plan was one of the worst aspects they pointed out.
2005. Reasons for a change (II) • We had also noticed that: • There was a very high number of students. • But they attended neither lectures, nor exams. • The average time to finish the degree was 8 years, although the “planned” time is 5 years. • And then… the ULL opened the possibility to its different Schools and Faculties to start applying the ECTS system under certain conditions (pilot project). • Since 2005-2006, we´re working in this ECTS project. Almost ten professor tries, every year, to adapt their materials to european system.
2005. Blogs • In ECTS Project, we began to use blogs • Blogs were in Faculty of Law webpage, but it was not part of University system, because at this time there was not a department for pages yet. • In some cases, blogs were outside Faculty of Law system (f. e., Blogalia (www.blogalia.com)
2005. Blogs http://dcivil.blogalia.com
2007. PHP webpages • We tried to join the concept of blog with the idea of classic webpages. • Many professor began to contract services of external companies • In La Laguna, the most important company is WEBEMPRESAS (http://www.paginaswebempresas.com/)
2007. PHP Webpages http://www.dcivil.com
2009. MOODLE Virtual campus • Creation of Virtual Campus Department • Introduction of MOODLE system • Dissemination of MOODLE between professors and students • Now, almost the third part of our students have any subject in ULL Virtual Campus
