Commission for Educational Technology Program Overview • Coordinate Ed Tech efforts in Connecticut • Connect public K-12, Higher Ed and libraries by 2004 • Establish rigorous standards in technology competency for students, teachers and administrators • Assist in the development of the Connecticut Parent Technology Academy • Establish the Connecticut Digital Library

Current Network Activities • K-12 & Librarary Site Surveys • 112 Districts complete (Accounts for over 900 buildings) • Complete Visits • K-12 Recommendations / Implementation • Evaluation documents out to 75+ districts • Follow up meetings with districts ongoing • Backbone Deployment • Equipment on order for K12, Initial Higher Eds • Circuit orders in a short holding pattern
Current Network Activities (3) • Network Deployment Activities • Working on Next Generation contract mechanisms • Completing portions of the Higher Ed backbone • Beginning deployment to K-12 and libraries
Operating Assumptions for K12 • One connection per district funded by State • Some minimum internal network and technology standards • No grants to LEA’s for network components • Filtering and Firewall provided by State but locally managed
Operating Assumptions for K12 • Good Relationships of towns, schools and libraries need to be maintained • Coordination of site survey data and initiatives with other State programs for K12
Deployment • Some districts, libraries and campuses this year • Large push to get to every district next year assuming legislative support • Some reliance on yet-to-be-approved USF application
