  2. NORMS The standards of behavior by which we agree to operate while we are in this group. Every team needs to establish their own norms.

  3. NORM! We need to greet our Norms with enthusiasm

  4. DEVELOPING NORMS • Each person on the team reads the ideas from the handout—p.211 in Learning by Doing by DuFour, DuFour, Eaker, and Many 2. Jot down norm ideas as you read (you don’t have to have 1 for every category) 3. Then choose your top 5 and copy on to post- its (1 norm per post-it)

  5. DEVELOPING NORMS 4. Put all 5 ideas from everyone on chart paper and group like ideas together • Divide into groups to work on each cluster of ideas • Discuss each one, making sure you reach consensus on operational definitions • Write a norm for each category

  6. DEVELOPING NORMS • Review—then post in the room where meetings take place • Go over them at each meeting and make adjustments as needed—these belong to no one but you! • Every group must establish their own norms • What do you do when you violate norms?
