KIDS and SSIDs Overview • Kansas Individual Data on Students (KIDS) • Student-level data collection • Implemented in 2005-2006 school year • Assigns unique state student ID (SSID) to each P-12 child • Maintains longitudinal data regarding each student • Is the “master” of student’s demographic information • Tracks students as they move from school to school and over time
KIDS and SSIDs Overview • KIDS consist of two systems: Assignment and Collection • Assignment—creates SSIDs and maintains “core student data” • Direct access to KIDS Assignment is available • Multi-district access is NOT available—a separate login is required for each district • Batch files are sent to obtain SSIDs for children • Collection—maintains the remainder of the child’s data • Districts submit data via KIDS Collection multiple times throughout the school year • Multi-district access is available but requires authorization from each superintendent of each district • ASGT records are submitted to generate SSIDs
KIDS and SSIDs Overview • State Student Identification Numbers • 10-digit number assigned to each child that is involved with an educational entity in Kansas • Remains with the child throughout the child’s educational experience • The SSID is never recycled • The child is tracked by the SSID as he/she moves in and out of districts and the state
KIDS and SSIDs Overview • Foundations for School Success—SSIDs can be created within Foundations for School Success • Each PAT Coordinator should work with the district(s) to determine the best method for generating SSIDs for PAT participants • KIDS Assignment System • KIDS Collection System (ASGT records) • Foundations for School Success (District/Org Update or Multi-Org Update access level)
