Aims, Objectives and Progress • To improve patient care in terms of quality, access and appropriateness • Planning • Support Local Health boards in NoSPG to plan services for eating disorders • Feed into central planning for improved eating disorders services • Support QIS guideline implementation • Recommendations for Management & Treatment of Eating Disorders – published November 2006 • Development of Care Pathways • Review Current Service Provision • - propose improvements

  5. Aims, Objectives and Progress • Involve patients/carers in service development • Develop and implement effective clinical information management systems. (Generic Clinical System) • Develop a quality assurance programme • To look at the issue of Training and Education • Support research and continuing professional development. • Prepare an Option appraisal for inpatient service provision

How we are measuring Our Achievements We have been measuring our progress against the 12 Core Principles for MCN’s as laid out in NHS HDL (2002) 69 Promoting the development of Managed Clinical Networks in NHS Scotland. In the first 18 months:- • 4/12 - have been Met • 6/12 – working towards • 2/12 – not met

  7. Examples of our Achievements • Planning - • Nationally • Involved in negotiations re IP service provision • Regularising arrangements for IP care in independent sector • At a more local level • NHS Tayside – setting up a Tier 2/3 service (due to launch on 05/11/07)

  8. Communication • We produced our first Annual Report in April 2007 • We hold regular Steering Group Meetings on a 3 monthly basis and publish our minutes/agendas on our website. • We use Videoconferencing Equipment to facilitate meetings where appropriate. • We keep in contact with our patient/carer volunteers by email.

  9. Information Systems • Generic Clinical System – NHSG Eating Disorder Service is an early adopter site • Information on cost/length of stay in private sector beds is collated on a 3 monthly basis • Information on IP usage in NHS Psychiatric Hospitals is collated monthly • A website with information for patients/carers/health professionals was launched in August 2007. (www.eatingdisorder.nhsgrampian.org)

Patients/Carers • A database of volunteers is held • Patient/Public Involvement Pack has been developed • Wherever necessary patients/carers/families are included and their opinions sought • Education & Training • National Eating Disorders Education and Training group (NEET). • A conference on Severe and Enduring Eating Disorders for Specialists is taking place on 8th/9th November 2007 at Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre. This is a follow up to the successful Conference held in Aberdeen for Non-Specialists in 2006.

  11. Option Appraisal for Inpatient Provision • Completed in 2006 • Service Development Proposal produced – Apr 2007 • NoSPG agreement in principle reached April 2007 • Design Team appointed and warrants sought – July 2007 • Ongoing planning …………..

Current Workplan Our current workplan is addressing the following areas: • Planning • QIS Guidelines • Information Management • Patient & Carer Involvement • Education & Training • Team Working • Communication • Measuring our achievements against the core principles for MCN’s and the Strengthening the role of Managed Clinical Networks HDL (2007) 21.
