EUSAAR Overview EUSAAR Aerosol Monitoring Stations
EUSAAR Overview Current Measurements at EUSAAR Sites
EUSAAR Overview Major Requirements for Aerosol monitoring in Europe Objective 1: Ensure measurements and QA/QC of aerosol chemical, optical and physical properties Objective 2: Ensure dissemination of data and capacity building Objective 3: Develop future tools for aerosol monitoring and dissemination of information Objective 4: Ensure transnational access of research infrastructures
EUSAAR Overview Objective 1: Ensure high quality measurements of aerosol properties
EUSAAR Overview Objective 2: Ensure dissemination and use of data and capacity building
EUSAAR Overview Objective 3 : Future tools for monitoring and data transfer
EUSAAR Overview Objective 4 : Transnational access of research infrastructures • High level of instrumentation available • Long-record data bases • long record of trans-national access. • representative of a specific climate or ecosystems
EUSAAR Overview Goals of EUSAAR • Implementation of an efficient and high quality network of stations • Contribution to cost-effective new tools for atmospheric monitoring • Developing of synergies with other EU projects such as ACCENT, EARLINET,, EUCAARI and other programs such as EMEP and GAW • Dissemination of data and knowledge outside of the EUSAAR consortium (station operators, users, monitoring programs) • Consolidation of current observation efforts across Europe to ensure their continuation beyond the frame of the project
EUSAAR Overview Participation in EUSAAR • Research institutions and well as monitoring authorities can join EUSAAR (www.eusaar.net) • Your are welcome to apply for a Associate Partnership • You will have access to all results and the whole quality assurance program within EUSSAR • You are welcome to calibration and intercomparison activities • Technical staff and young scientist are welcome to attend training courses
EUSAAR Overview Next Activities • Technical meeting in Leipzig week Oct 8, 2007 • Discussion of quality assurance and intercomparison results • Formulating of standards for organic carbon, number size distribution, absorption and scattering coefficient measurements • Institutes and authorities are welcome to participate in these meetings
EUSAAR Overview Cooperation with EMEP • EUSAAR is orientated to establish long-term physical, optical and organic carbon measurements at sampling sites • We would like to welcome EMEP and its community to use the results and standards developed in EUSAAR • EUSSAR would like to cooperate closely with EMEP on the future strategy for level 2 and 3 sites • EUSSAR would like to harmonize with EMEP (and GAW) sampling and QA/QC protocols for advanced level 2 and 3 aerosol parameters
