Introduction • Project Management Team • Workshop Style: Informal and open for discussion • Highlights of Day 1 • Overview of the project and ice-breaking session • A snapshot of current PE&A focus in the region by BusicSenti Consultants • Case studies from the region and group discussion on lessons learned • Welcome reception hosted by DIP Thailand
Background • The needs to build regional understanding about utilization of the IP system for economic advantage • Information and education will drive innovation, employment , as well as regional economy and trade • The reality of ASEAN Economic Community in 2015 • Chapter 13, Article 9(5) of the AANZFTA • Strategic Goal 3 of the ASEAN IPR Action Plan 2011-2015 • Current state of play in IP Offices • Therefore, it is also timely to collectively determine a strategic way forward
Project Goal To develop a sustained and strategic approach to IP public education and awareness (PE&A) in order to maximize the effective use of the IP system by businesses and creators in the region
Project Objectives and Activities • Objectives : To establish an IP PE&A Community of Practice and develop an IP PE&A Strategy • Five Specific Activities: • Establish an on-going Community of Practice • Complement and build upon IP PE&A activities already being undertaken in AMS and Australia and New Zealand • Develop a region-wide IP PE&A Strategy • Determine appropriate target audiences, communication messages, promotional approaches and communication collateral • Create a sustainable approach to IP PE&A
Outputs and Outcomes • Short-term Output: Sharing of best practices and understanding of current IP PE&A activities and strategy • Long-term Output: Capacity in all IP Offices will be improved as a result of improved and regular communication between offices on IP PE&A issues • This will encourage greater investment in innovation, strategies for commercial exploitation of IP and trade flows • On-going contact between the Community of Practice will ensure knowledge is appropriately disseminated to all AMS • the outputs of the strategy will be used to further create an IP PE&A Campaign based on the strategy and tools that can be used as part of that campaign.
