Roadmap for Higher Pulse Repetition Frequencies in WSN

This submission proposes a terminology roadmap for higher pulse repetition frequencies (PRF) in the IEEE P802.15 Working Group for Wireless Specialty Networks (WSN). It addresses the question of "what is 'higher'?" and provides a roadmap for future levels of higher PRF.

  1. Project: IEEE P802.15 Working Group for Wireless Specialty Networks (WSN) Submission Title:Terminology roadmap for higher pulse repetition frequencies. Date Submitted: November 2018 Source:Benjamin A. Rolfe, Blind Creek Associates Contact: Voice: +1 408 395 7207, E-Mail: ben.rolfe<at> ieee.org Re: Enhanced Impulse Radio and Future Proofing the Standard Abstract: Proposed resolution to the inevitable comment on the term “higher PRF” questioning “what is ‘higher’” solving the problem for the 2 levels of “higher” introduced in amendment 4z, and provides a roadmap to future levels of higher PRF. Purpose: Get things done, with a smile. Notice: This document has been prepared to assist the IEEE P802.15. 3. Begs the questions:What means “higher” and what comes after HPRF? 4. Levels of higher in 15.4z • “Higher” must be higher than something, and in this case, shall be (as is clearly stated) some PRF higher than the defined base PRF (64 MHz) • In 16.3.4 we define HPRF as mean PRF of 249.6 MHz and 124.8 MHz. • Propose to define an explicit term for each level of PRF so “higher” may be precisely defined: • HPRF is a PRF defined in the following table that is greater than High PRF

  5. What about the future? Disclaimer: The following slides represents the views of a single individual with a questionable sense of humor and does not represent the views of any organization, entity or responsible adult . Slide 5

  6. Levels of higher in 15.4z • It has been established incontrovertibly that three things are certain: Death,Taxes [1] and Future amendments to 802.15.4 • While the first two are are out of scope of this presentation, in anticipation of the third, we should extend PRF level table to address taking PRF to foreseeable, unlikely, improbable and impossible levels: [1] “Death and Taxes,” from Christopher Bullock, The Cobler of Preston (1716).

  7. Yes, that’s right… • There is nothing beyond Plaid. • Quod Erat Demonstrandum
