  4. What causes air pollution? • Smog (ozone) • Gas that hurts the lungs. You can’t see or smell it • Sunlight turns car exhaust and industrial emissions into smog

  6. What can you think of? • Air pollution is caused by every day activities. What can you think of that people and machines do every day? • Driving Cars • Smoking • Factories • Burning Trash • Fires • Flying Planes • Spraying chemicals • Burning fields

  7. How can air pollution harm you? • Have your lungs ever hurt when you’ve gone outside? • Have you had a hard time catching your breath? • Health Effects: • Irritated Eyes • Sore Throat • Cough • Headache • Chest Tightness • Shortness of Breath • Wheezing • Feel Tired • Nausea

What chemicals are in the air? • Carbon Monoxide • Where does it come from? • No color or smell • Gas • Nitrogen Acids • Comes during rush hour from cars • Hydrocarbons • Caused when petrol is not fully burnt • Particulates • Small • Dust and fumes in the air • Caused by vehicles, factories, and burning coal for heating
