Matter and Energy • Matter makes up the universe • Matter is the substance of the universe • “stuff” you can see, smell, and feel • Energy is the mover of substance • In the sun, food, heat, sound, electricity, radiation
Energy The capacity or power to do work, such as the capacity to move an object (of a given mass) by the application of force. A substance-like quantity that has the ability to cause change.
Energy Substance-Like Quantity Can Cause a Change • It has a unit (Joule) • We can measure it • Not something you can hold • Ability to cause change in another object
