  1. Demo: A System for Dynamic Real-Time Personal FitnessMonitoring By Raef Mchaymech

  2. Contents • We will show in this summary: • Context • Motivation • Problem • Solution

  3. Context • We can conclude the main context of the article, that is: • Essentially the smartphone devices with their internal sensors • In addition to external wireless body sensors • So we can talk in general about a wireless sensors network (WSN), that are communicating and aggregating captured data through a smartphone’s app.

  4. Motivation • We noticed plenty of reasons that motivated the authors, we can classify them in two sections: • The influential capabilities and characteristics of smartphones: • Like the sensors offered by smartphones (GPS, accelerometer, …) • The easy integration of external sensors with smartphones (through standard interfaces) • And the truth that smartphones are now a permanent component in most people’s life • Improving the general wellbeing of the users • Improve individual's lifestyle • Personal knowledge management (through self-tracking) • Monitor Activities, habits and situations of the user • And let the user compare its situation with similar situations of other users.

  5. Problem • The authors highlighted many problems that settle under one roof: • The nowadays smartphones applications are focusing on one single aspect of the user’s physical activities • There is no combination of heterogeneous data from different sources, and no benefit from their relationships in extracting new knowledge • The applications are telling what the users are doing but not suggesting what they should/would do to improve their physical states

  6. Solution • From the authors perspective, the solution is in the real-time awareness of the situation(s) the user is involved in. • A proposed technology to achieve this is the Complex Event Processing (CEP) • This solution will notify the user if his activities should be increased or decreased, depending on the aggregation of different data from different sources (context of the user) • Advantages : • Dynamic fitness monitoring • Extended contextualization
