VOTING RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES By: Molly Verespy
You may think voting is not a right but it is and a lot of people in the US are not using it to their advantage. They are not speaking their mind.
Rights There are a lot of rights that come with voting. One of them is the freedom of speech. Voting is giving your opinion and that is very important. You have a lot of other rights too.
Voting at 18 When kids turn 18 a lot of them are hesitant to vote because they are afraid or don’t know what to do. Also they might not think of it as a right or a responsibility to have the privilege to vote.
You have lots of rights You have the right to vote at age in the US 18. You can also vote if you are a criminal but only two states allow this. Vermont and Maine. They are the only two out of all 50 that let criminals vote but only if they have an absentees ballet to send in.
Responsibilities Voting is also a responsibility as a US citizen and it is your job to vote. If you don’t vote it does not only effect you it effects the people in your community to and even in the whole US. And it is not an excuse to say you forgot because you could have someone remind you to vote or put a string around your finger.
Voting is a responsibility people know this and think they don’t have to vote because of that because it is not mandatory. But it does not only affect you because every vote counts and the more people that think the less votes there are making it harder to do things like know how the next Governor will be or President.
Don’t Forget To Vote You should always vote if you have the opportunity because you might not get to vote some day it is a huge privilege to vote use it when you can.
