What do you mean by “window shopping”? • Polo Ralph Lauren in NYC • Testing virtual window shopping, inspired by the movie Minority Report. • The store windows incorporate touch-screen panels to allow window shoppers to actually purchase clothing all hours of the day/night.
How it works • Customers are able to browse through the Polo Ralph Lauren collection, from outside of the store. • Orders can be shipped to your desired destination, be picked up inside, or you can have your wish list sent to your personal E-mail. • Customer simply swipes card.
Why the alternative? • Allows customers to purchase items after hours or on impulse. • Helps establish a niche in the click-and-mortar market. • Provides a new and unique shopping experience for their customers.
By the numbers • Internet sales in general, leapt by 23 percent over the same spring period a year earlier. • Ralph Lauren debuted their state of the art technology at the 2006 U.S. Open in August.
