  2. Definition: OOH GMS contract “18.30-08.00 and all day weekends and on public holidays” COGPED “also the type and style of working that takes place in this time”

  3. RCGP: The six competencies ‘Care of acutely ill people’, Curriculum Statement 1. Ability to manage common medical, surgical and psychiatric emergencies in the OOH setting. 2. Understanding of the organisational aspects of NHS OOH care. 3. Ability to make appropriate referrals to hospitals and other professionals in the OOH setting. 4. Demonstration of communication skills required for OOH care. 5. Individual personal time and stress management. 6. Maintenance of personal security and awareness and management of the security risks to others

  4. Sessions 12 per year 4-6 hours

  5. Options for Sessions · Observation of NHS Direct · Undertaking a course in telephone triage · Updating CPR skills · Participating in simulated emergency medical situation training · Participating in a shift with a team of para-medics. · Working with a GP in A&E · Working in an OOH / Walk-in Centre · Undertaking home visits for an OOH service

  6. Role of Trainer • Evaluation GPRs skill, competency and learning needs • Educational planning of OOH • Read sessional feedback sheet from Clinical Supervisor @ OOH provider? • Evaluate portfolio evidence, validate competences and confirm required level of exposure

  7. Role of Trainee • Organising sufficient sessions • Gaining competence and confidence • Maintaining portfolio of evidence

  8. Role of OOH Service Provide adequate Clinical Supervision • Trained supervisors • Time and space for debrief • Documentary feedback Adhere to QA for OOH Training from London Deanery
