WV Division of Corrections Mission & Vision Vision: The vision of the West Virginia Division of Corrections is to be recognized as an innovative leader in providing quality correctional services. Mission: The mission of the West Virginia Division of Corrections is to enhance public safety by providing a safe, secure, humane correctional system, including an effective community supervision program, opportunities to prepare offenders for successful re-entry, and sensitivity and responsiveness to victims of crime.
Mission • Enhancing Public Safety • Providing a Safe Facilities Environment • The #1 Priority of the Agency is to run safe, secure, and humane correctional facilities for staff, offenders, and the citizens of West Virginia. • Who we incarcerate: adult males & females and youthful offenders who are convicted of state felonies as defined by WV Code. • Community Supervision • Parole Services: supervising WV Parolees and Out of State Parolees/Probationers, providing a variety of re-entry and supervision services.

Mission, continued… • Victim Sensitivity The WVDOC strives to remember the Victim in each of our activities; treating them as customers to whom we provide a valuable service and assurance of quality.
Accreditation Under the leadership of Commissioner Rubenstein, the WVDOC has stressed consistency and “raising the bar” in regard to operational and administrative performance across all disciplines within the agency. To that end, the WVDOC has committed to an agency-wide initiative using systematic internal and external accreditation audits.
