2. You shall not take the name of the Lord, your God, in vain. a. The trivial use of God’s name. b. Blasphemy c. False oaths- perjury
3. Remember to keep holy the Lord’s day. a. A day for physical and spiritual rest. b. Renew the covenant with God. c. Put Sabbath first, not worldly distractions.
4. Honor your father and mother. a. Respect authority b. Honor your Father and Mother that your days may be long in the land that theLord, your God, gives you (Exodus 20:12). c. Jesus’ example of how He treated His parents.
5. You shall not kill a. Life is sacred at all stages i. Abortion, Euthanasia, Murder, Suicide b. Using drugs, alcohol, or other harmful substances. c. Deliberate acts that unnecessarily threaten the life and health of ourselves or others; self-destructive choices. d. Words that “kill.”
6. You shall not commit adultery a. Chastity. b. Boundaries of God’s covenant. c. Respect for yourself and others.
7. You shall not steal a. Respecting the property of others’, regardless of its monetary value. i. Property can be objects AND ideas- plagiarism. b. Earth’s resources. c. Not paying a worker a fair wage, or a worker not working to earn their wage.
8. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor. • Gossiping in all forms- verbal and written communication. • Reading private materials of others • Making known, without just cause, the faults of others.
9. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife. a. Honor the sacrament of marriage. i. Marriage is a covenant with God that should be honored by others.
10. You shall not covet your neighbor’s goods. a. Jealousy/Envy. i. Becomes problematic when these feelings consume your life. b. It wastes time and spirit to indulge in greed or envy over the wealth, power, and/or looks of others.
