Primary Tasks • General: • Make preparations to assist the Congregation, the Council and ultimately the Call Committee to call a new Pastor • Specific: • Complete the Ministry Site Profile as provided by the Synod • What the Committee does NOT do: form the Call Committee • What is the purpose of the Ministry Site Profile? • A document that summarizes “Who We Are” as a congregation and “What We Need” in a new Pastor • Transition Committee gathers input from the Congregation, prepares a portion of the Profile (Parts I and II), which is approved and completed by the Call Committee. • Document is posted with the Synod and call candidates can review it.

Sections of the Site Profile the Transition Committee Completes Part I: Who We Are • (1) Name and Location, (2) Contact Information, (3) Demographics • (4) Budget of the Congregation • (5) Trends in the Community Context of the Congregation Part II: Our Vision for Mission • (6) Ministry Site Characteristics (multiple choice) • (7) Purpose, Giftedness and Mission (essay) • (8) Summary Description (essay) • (9) References

  7. Gathering Input Approaches Committee has used and will use: • Gather existing documents and data • Examples: Brand Study, church history, congregational data, existing Mission Statement, etc. • Sunday Forums • Electronic Surveys • Suggestion Box • Wall Charts • Conversations • Other

  8. How Long Will This Take? • Our goal is to do the process well, not fast. • Recognizing that the time needed to gather input, find information, and communicate with the membership can be complicated and time-consuming; • Recognizing that the help of the congregation will be needed with many of our tasks; • We hope to complete our tasks inside of 6 months, at which time the Call Committee’s work would begin.

  9. December Tasks • Complete Review of Constitution and All Policies • communicate needs and priorities for updating to Council • Gathering our History • Archives Committee’s Work • Goal: Presentation at Annual Meeting

January-March Tasks • Basic Congregational Demographics • Description of the Community Around Us: • Characteristics, Changes and Challenges • Current Programs for Mission and Ministry to the Community • Identifying References • from inside and outside the congregation • Purpose, Giftedness, and Mission of the Congregation (begin)

  11. March-May Tasks • List Congregation Officers, Budget • Identify Changes and Trends in our Congregation • Identify “What We are Excited About Right Now” • Define Our Role as Partners with the Synod and ELCA • Ministry Site Characteristics: • Our Leadership Style • Our Programming • Our Theological Perspective • Purpose, Giftedness, and Mission of the Congregation • Complete Parts I and II of the MSP, and hand off to the Call Committee so they may begin their work.
