With mind maps you can: • Generate ideas quickly • Segregate ideas (plan structure/order) • Get an overview of your essay • Clarify your thoughts • Make links and see relationships between arguments • Can expand ideas out (branch out) • Start again easily • Make mistakes early on which are easily fixed • Build confidence in yourself • Create many options (of which you can choose the best points) • Prevent repetition

  3. Time to spend on a mind map It is recommended you always spend a certain amount of time on a mind map. In a 2 hour essay about 15 minutes should be spent on a mind map If the essay is shorter (for example in a TOEIC exam, 20-30minutes), then spend 3-5 minutes mind mapping. It will really help you.
