Reasons for a TPC as main tracker in ILD ③Topological time stamping, important for removal of beam background, cosmics, etc and for hooking up correct tracks to the silicon detectors external to the TPC (K. Fujii): Reasons for a TPC as main tracker in ILD
Reasons for a TPC as main tracker in ILD ③ Topological time stamping/Backgrounds. Comment: In physics measurements simulated up to now, SM backgrounds have been included and have been shown not very sensitive to the type of central detector. However, before we get to the SM physics backgrounds, one has to remove backgrounds due to the effect seen on the slide 7, due to junk from the machine and due to cosmics. Junk from the machine and cosmics have not been included in many simulations and can be handled easily by a TPC... Reasons for a TPC as main tracker in ILD

Reasons for a TPC as main tracker in ILD ⑥ Comment about software The arguments up to now have been related to hardware mainly. Software has become so fast and powerful, that the reasons why we don‘t need „continuous tracking“ are given. Of course powerful software is good, but powerful hardware is also good. A combination of both is even better. It allows the possibilities of cross-checks and redundancy, both which are important in our business. Reasons for a TPC as main tracker in ILD
