Articles- Setting up gov’t • 3. Amendments- changes • 3. THE PREAMBLE: Video • “We the people…..do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America” • What is the purpose of the Preamble? • 4. Main Points of Preamble • 1. To form a more perfect union • 2. To establish justice • 3. To insure domestic tranquility • 4. To provide common defense • 5. To promote general welfare • 6. To secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our prosperity

Judicial Branch- interprets the law • IV. Relationship between states and nat’lgov’t • V. When and How the Constitution can be changed • VI. Declares Constitution Supreme Law of the Land • VII. The process on how to ratify the Constitution

  4. Amendment Process • 6. Amendments- changes made to the Constitution • 7. The constitution has been amended 27 times • 8. The amendment process includes proposing the amendment and ratifying the amendment by the states.

  5. Interpreting the Constitution • 9. Necessary and Proper Clause= gives Congress the authority to make laws that are necessary and proper to carry out duties • 10. Strict interpretation- only what is contained in the Constitution • 11. Loose interpretation- anything that can be implied or is not specifically stated in the Constitution • 12. SUPREME COURT has final say on interpretation
