  1. Step One: decide what your topic will be; make a chart with your topic as the heading and three sections titled K: What I already know W: What I want to know L: What I learned Making a KWL Chart

  2. Step Two: Fill in the topic, what you already know about a topic, and what you would like to know Step Three: Do some research on your topic. Look online, read books, etc.

  3. Step Four: Fill in what you learned about your topic. Even though your chart is finished, it is ok to go back and fill more in over time. You may know new things, wonder new things, and learn new things about your topic.
