Student Success Initiative 2005 • For the third year, Grade 3 students must pass TAKS Reading to be promoted to Grade 4. • The students who took Grade 3 TAKS Reading as a promotion requirement in 2003 are now in Grade 5. These Grade 5 students must pass both TAKS Reading and TAKS Math to be promoted. This is the first year for the Grade 5 requirement. • This same group of students will be subject to the Grade 8 promotion requirements in 2008. Not a final accountability document
Student Success Initiative 2005 • Students in Special Education are subject to the decisions of the Admission, Dismissal, and Review Committee (ARD) as to promotion requirements. • After the third administration this summer, all students will have a grade placement committee, which includes parents, to make final decisions. Grade 3 TAKS Reading Update • Currently 89% of Grade 3 students have passed TAKS Reading. While this number is 94% at the state level, SAISD gained 5 percentage points and the state gained 3 percentage points this year. • We expect 381 students to take the Grade 3 Reading test this summer with 51 in Spanish. Grade 5 TAKS Reading Update • Currently 77% of Grade 5 students have passed TAKS Reading. While this number is 86% at the state level, SAISD gained 18 percentage points and the state gained 13 percentage points. • We expect 760 students to take the Grade 5 Reading test this summer with 18 students tested in Spanish. Grade 5 TAKS Math Update • Currently 80% of Grade 5 students have passed TAKS Math. The state has not announced the cumulative math passing rate, but at first administration, SAISD gained 11 percentage points to the State’s 6 percentage point gain. • We expect 682 students to take the Grade 5 Math test this summer with 10 tested in Spanish.
