Studying strategies • 2ndyear moves fast. Especially block 7! • May need to change how you’re studying if you feel it’s not working. Be open to it! • Much memorization in block 7 • Quality > quantity • Effective break taking • Pomodoro method • Weekdays work, weekends off • 9-5 approach • Make free time actual free time
Micro Resources • Visual tools • SketchyMicro • Picmonic • First Aid- Microbiology chapter • Firecracker • Lippincott flashcards
IT WILL ALL BE OK! • Studying for your classes is studying for step 1!!! • Don’t feel like you have to do what everyone else is doing or buy what everyone is buying!!! • But at same time, if something isn’t working don’t be afraid to try something new or ask for help from peer/us/student affairs
Study Tips for Active Learning • “Ctrl-F” electronic version of First Aid (on the drive) • Skim First Aid / use as outline for framework • Use lecture objectives • Practice questions (USMLE easy, USMLE rx) • Visualize sketchy/picmonic in head from scratch • Workshops • Try to create structural framework in mind to make sense of random facts • Ask questions • Compare things
