  18. Transition to College/CareerSuggestions fromDon’t Tell Me What to Do, Just Send Money • “Hands-on” Parenting —students need to face the bumps in the roads and be able to work out problems independently. Be a consultant, not a Supervisor! Allow them to experience consequences as it is vital toward responsible adulthood! • Academic—not unusual to change majors. Everyone is smart here! • Social/Emotional—it’s a roller coaster • Knowing the Difference between problems and crisis • Normal to unload worries on parents so student feels better • Common to feel as if everyone else is happy and well adjusted while they feel awkward and out of place • Listen to their voice!
