Benefits of Riding in a True Frame BALANCE, STRENGTH, ELASTICITY, A SOUND and BEAUTIFUL HORSE
Different Horse, Different Frame, Same Functionality Every horse has their own ideal frame that they can function correctly through all of their movements, whether they are simple circles or the power piaffe movement.
Different Horse, Different Frame, Same Functionality Though the overall picture may look like the top professional athletes, doesn't mean the horse is executing the movement correctly. Top: Very correct and relaxed extended trot Left: Dressage horse of the year and Dressage World Record holder, Totilas executing a correct extended trot Right: very pretty looking, but poorly executed extended trot with the horse in a "forced" frame
Use of External Aids Draw reins, Double Bridles, Curb bits, etc. can be useful when used correctly and can be useless or incredibly detrimental when used improperly.
Rollkur VS LDR (Long, Deep, Round) Encouraging the horse to lower his neck and lift his back builds strength in the abs and the back. Left and Lower Right Pictures: show a horse in LDR: lowering (lengthening) of the neck, deep in the bridle, and round in the back Top Right: shows the use of rollkur (over-flexion) with no lowering of the neck, discouraging roundness in the back
4 Levels of Development: 1-Poor • narrow neck and/or U-necked, lack of muscling (around withers) and over topline, pronounced neck-wither(NW) connection • fussy in the bridle, no self-carriage, very little to no reaching down into bridle
4 Levels of Development: 2-Sufficient • some muscling over topline, even muscle toned neck (no U-neck), slightly pronounced NW connection • accepts bridle, very little self-carriage, short periods of reaching down, poll can hold in high position for short durations
4 Levels of Development: 3-Moderate • good muscling over the back, little to no pronounced NW connection • good self-carriage, willing to reach down, poll can hold in high position for some time
4 Levels of Development: 4-Maximum • Thick, well muscled neck (Like Stallion), smooth NW connection, great topline muscling • great self-carriage, can hold poll at high position for extended amount of time
Symposium Demonstrations • Body Signs of Improperly Framed vs Properly Framed Horses (Ground and Undersaddle) • Differences in Rollkur vs LDR (Ground and Undersaddle) • Correct Use of External Aids • Developing Frame on a Young Horse • signs of imbalance • signs of resistance • signs of fatigue
